Assassin's Creed Unveils Unexpected Attack on Titan Collaboration for Thanksgiving
In a surprising collaboration that challenges traditional forecasts, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including free extra story content for Shadows players.
Strange Questline Disclosed
According to the formal announcement, "An unusual meeting pulls heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where hints of banned ceremonies and terrifying changes resonate through the darkness." The storyline features a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a clandestine cult.
The mission focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Transformations
The preview features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser concludes with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the captive, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Prizes and Additional Material
Players who successfully complete the quest will obtain an unique katana in addition to multiple artifacts concealed throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Special weapons
- Survey Corps steed
Newest Free Story Update
This patch also adds the game's latest no-cost story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive abilities: Naoe introduces a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Previous Japanese Animation Crossovers
This represents hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime properties. The series earlier showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally included a quest that clearly echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
